Join the Army

You don't have to make a 20+ year career out of it, but joining the military (army, air force, navy, etc) for a while is a great experience.

You'll meet lots of great people, learn valuable skills - and hell, you can even get a free education from it.
Bonus "man points" if you join when you're 18, get a free education, pension out in 20 years and then get a civilian job in your trade - while still cashing pension checks.  Better yet, retire at 38 if you can do it.

Have an open mind...

You need to have an open mind, but not so open that your common sense falls out.

keep it clean

Keep your "ride" clean -- it doesn't matter if it's shiny & new (unless it looks like you're trying too hard - and the payments are putting you in the poor house), or if it's a clunker with some duct tape patches here and there.

But, keep the thing clean!  There is no need to have fast food wrappers and coffee cups tossed all over the place along with sticky spills here and there.  Keep some premoistened wipes in the car, and clean up if you spill something.  Also use them to wipe down the dash every few days.

If you're going through a drive through or into a fast food place, you have no excuse to not gather up existing garbage and toss it right then  (just don't litter)!

don't kill time

Time is a valuable and precious commodity -- you can't trade it or buy it.  Once it's gone, it's gone.

Use it wisely.  Don't "kill" time -- find ways to be productive in spare time.  And yes, we all need to find ways to unwind - perhaps that's playing a video game (just not for 18 hours in a day), or chilling at a strip club or bar/nightclub.  That's all fine, it's when you're just sitting there doing nothing for no reason.  That's killing time.

ride a bike.. a motorcycle type

ride a motorcycle for at least a season or two.

have an interesting hobby

have interesting & manly hobbies you're active with - and no, knitting is not one of them.

take out the trash

take out garbage - don't let it pile it up and over flow for others to clean up.

Learn to Survive

A few basic survival skills can come in handy - especially when you least expect it.

You don't need to know how to survive being dropped into a barren Arctic wasteland, but some basic skills on catching and preparing food, keeping clean, first aid, etc., really helps you be a man.

Hands off

Something that shouldn't have to be said, but when you hear about it in the news almost daily, I guess it needs to be said, "never hit a woman (or child)".

learn to cook...

learn some decent cooking skills.  In the kitchen & the bbq and an over an open fire.

hats off

When in a restaurant or other formal setting, your ball cap comes off.  Or you're toque if you're 18 and still wearing one when it's not the middle winter.

Friends vs Girlfriends

When you're out of college, you're pretty much going to find it much harder to make guy friends - so be sure to nuture those friendships..  girls come second - they are much easier to get and to replace (if you need advice, click here for some free ebooks on dating and seduction).

Lift the Toilet Seat

Seriously guys, you're supposed to be a man - not a wild animal.

Lift the toilet seat instead of spraying the area down, and don't forget to flush!

beer bottles

dont nervously pick at your beer bottle label... especially when you're out at a bar and hoping to create some attraction with the ladies.

Go fishing

Sure, fishing may not keep us all on our 'toes' as far as excitement, but you should at least learn to go fishing - besides, it's relaxing - once in a while for those of us multitasking, ADD type men.

Be sure you're doing it all, from baiting your hook, to cleaning & cooking your fish!

Rediscover Common Sense

Common sense doesn't seem to be too "common" anymore... so, slow down a bit and rediscover what common sense is really all about.

facebook & twitter

You're a man, not an 11 year old.

So don't post everything about your life on facebook and twitter.  Some things don't belong posted for the world to see and the other things, well, the world just doesn't care about them.

On that note, however, you should be using Facebook and Twitter for business...

Discipline Your Kids

If you have kids and they are doing something wrong, be sure to correct them.  You don't need to be an ass about it, but make sure they know they've done something wrong and correct it.

From manners, to common sense stuff, as a parent and a man, it's your job to pass along valuable life skills.  Of course, don't forget the love too!

Taking Responsibility

Take responsibility for your screw ups - stop blaming others, or fabricating crazy lies to try and cover up.

Learn to camp

Out in the wild,  with not much more than a tent,  some food and matches.

Keeping things clean

Leave things as clean as you found them.  Better yet, leave it cleaner.
